Who can apply for US student visas can sometimes depend on individual circumstances, but there are some general criteria all applicants must meet.
You can apply for an American student visa or study permit if you have been accepted by a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)-approved high school, university, community college, Christian college, career college or graduate school.
You must prove that you can pay all of your expenses, including return transportation for yourself and any family members who accompany you.
You must be in good health, and willing to complete a medical examination.
You must be proficient in English, or enrolled in courses leading to English proficiency.
You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record, and must not pose a risk to American security.
Finally, you must maintain a residence abroad that you have no intention of giving up.
